Thanks Raj for inviting me. I always look at & make note of the books and movies of my friends so this should be an interesting site. I plan to be active here and add my books soon but right now I just started a new job as a Personal Care Worker in a nursing home so I can't write too much today. One great book on finding a satisfying career path is called The Pathfinder - How to Choose or Change Your Career for a Lifetime of Satisfaction and Success by Nicholas Lore.Another one is Life as a Daymaker by David Wagner. It's about how to change the world by making someone's day.!For example place value on harmony in the workplace and when you rise everyday, vow to put a smile on several people's faces everyday. It's filled with great quotes and great examples of doing good to others

SUGUNA"S COLUMN - INFORMATION INTERMEDIARY
"Information intermediary" used to be Dr. Rajan's buzz word, when we were at, the then INSDOC, way back in 1986. He was trying to inspire the two engineers in our batch to try and put this concept into practice. They did something of that kind but later I lost track of them. I then didn't realise the importance of it. There were no `blog's like this and there was no `Devrai' in our batch!
Coming back to the concept of `information intermediary', there is now more scope and need for such initiatives. Librarians on one hand have several chunks of information to be organized and several new services being demanded, and on the other hand they face severe staffing constraints.
One way out is to outsource certain jobs to a proffessional consortium and get the jobs done. The `cost to the institution' factor comes down and the costs can be met even by departmental funds or paid under the respective project funds.
Some examples of such jobs are - cataloguing the reports generated by an institution, cataloguing and input of new aquistions, preparation of bibliographies & reading lists for forthcoming trainings and events, offering individual/project based SDI or CA services etc.
Many a time, even small organizations require documentation assistance and some help in organizing their collections. Even, starting them with the right way of organising their e-mails goes a long way. Some people tend to name the letters and documents very imroperly, that it it becomes impossible to dig through them later on. Even for these trivial things, using a combination of codes and authority file elements would be immensely helpful.
Now, should we be on the look out for such niches?

GBGV1816'S COLUMN - ME AND MY MIND !
MAY 30, 2008. FRIDAY
Me and My Darling mind,
When we came to this world, we did not know whom all we are going to meet and with whom we will have intimate relations. We did not know that we are destined to be with few. We came together to share wonderful moments of life. You know how we have been cherishing the precious moments for the last several years….uncountable. We take liberty on each other because we are one. We are bound by almighty and we are bound by emotion and spirit. When we (me and my mind) started our life......my pleasures became your pleasure.....your pleasures became my pleasures...my problems became your problems......your problems became my problems.
The most shocking and surprising think that you and me found out some distance between us. First thing it is a real discovery. I still don’t believe that there could be any distance at all. But then whey we tend to believe that there is some distance…….lot of distance. I really don’t know….how there could be distance between me(I, myself) and you(my mind).
Distance I think will never come on our way of understanding. We are bound by almighty.....this binding is more stronger than any thing else.
Today we both may be finding the heat of the problems around. But believe tomorrow will be different...it will be brighter....and more brighter.
Oh my darling mind you were always mind, you will continue to be mine……Be mine.....understand......dont separate my problems from yours.....The ultimate divine spirit / God(?) will bless us both.
We are one always....

SUGUNA'S COLUMN - INDEPENDENT INFORMATION CONSULTANT SUGUNASRI MADDALA SPEAKS.....
Shelfari website, particularly the virtual shelf and the display of new books
on it is very appealing, slowly kindling my interest in reading books.
By nature, I am an egotistict person with an autobiographical tendency. Before I complete reading a book, I will be overwhelmed by my own experiences and ideas.
My composition book during my school days used to be almost blank and the following year I used to write my autobiography in that near-blank book.
It was a hit with my friends and seniors! What a respect and veneration we had for seniors during those good old days.
My staple websites/blogs are dgroups, answers.com, answerbag.com, sahiti.org, sulekha.com, vasat blog, plantcultures, Forest flora of Andhra pradesh, plants for a future and of course Agrovoc. These days I have drifted a bit from librarianship. Besides these I like Astrojyoti.com and Raaga.com.

Mysteries
The cosmos is full of life, energy and activity and mysteries. We many a time tend to think that, thinking like this is as if a waste. Forgetting that our very birth and existence is no less a mystery. We come across many a times friends saying, “Life has become monotonous, no change, no thrill and no enjoyment….., I am sick of this stand still state of affairs”. Why do we normally feel like this. The thing is , we become so much outward…and objective and physical and realistic…. That we miss the cosmic reality which we come across many a times…at every walk and action and moment of our day today lives. Is it not a wisdom to look beyond what is visible….what is implied….what is between the lines. When we plan our life so much….use latest method of time management… to achieve what we want to achieve…..cosmos interferes with or without our awareness…..we adopt to those things which are given to us….we don’t know really…when and how…nature gives us….what we think was due to us. The balance that we strike in life between what we want to do, how much we are able to do. …..how much is realized of what we wanted to do…how many things that we wanted to do and achieve have not happened indeed, ……the balance that strikes in these trials and tribulations…..is it wholly or partially only due to our so called own initiatives?
The way we behave in society is no less a mystery. How many times we don’t wonder on our own acts and activities. How many times we confess for doing wrong things…..that looked wrong to us….after what has happened. How many times do we not succeed in making others believe on exactly the opposite of what we did…..and what we thought! How many times did we not take pride in boosting ourselves of our so called fallacious success….misleading others on what was utterly wrong according to our own conscience! We take pride in doing right things. We take pride in not doing…..and proving that we did it. We take pride in encouraging others to achieve. We take pride in encouraging others to go wrong. We feel sad that we could not get hold of the comforts of life. We feel sad that others are more comfortable than us.
How many times do we realize that we become sad and happy for the same distractions and achievements in life.
Mysteries are more mysterious than we think. Mysteries are more abundant than we think. The greatest mysteries are in and around us…..no need to go far off to Himalayas!
Life is mysterious. Life is wonderful. If on the way of life, we miss the understanding and realization of thrill, uncertainty, doubt and discomfort……we really have missed a lot….we are going to miss a lot. Before it is too late…..be busy….do things…come up in life….be
significant……….but…but……don’t miss life itself…which is another name for mystery!.........
MYSTERIES ARE MYSTERIES..MYSTERIES ARE WORTH CELEBRATIONS!

A Song Offering by
Rabindranath Tagore
(Source : Gitanjali/Rabindranath Tagore.-New Delhi : Indialog Publications, 2002)
“…..you sit there smiling”
I boosted among men that I had known you. They see your pictures in all works of mine. They come and ask me, “Who is he?” I know not how to answer them. I say, “Indeed, I cannot tell.” They blame and they go away in scorn. And you sit there smiling. I put my tales of you into lasting songs. The secret gushes out from my heart. They come and ask me, “Tell me all your meanings.” I know not how to answer them. I say, “Ah, who knows what they mean!” They smile and go away in utter scorn. And you sit there smiling. And you sit there smiling.
