On Service and Obsessions / M.K.Gandhi and Purnima : February 18, 2011 1. Service is rendered without joy helps neither the servant nor the served. But all other pleasures and possessions pale into nothingness before service which is rendered in a spirit of joy. – M.K.Gandhi (Sacred Space, TOI, Feb 18, 2011) 2. Our obsessions can be appeased when we see what life is at this moment ; it is not the next moment. A rose is not a rose if it stays for ever. _ Purnima (Speaking Tree, TOI, Feb 18, 2011) Yes, service is to be rendered with joy …. Then only the server and serviced will have meaning and purpose and satisfaction in life. The life lived becomes worthy of note. Purnima brings out the striking truth about our obsessions … we are so much obsessed about certain things …. We would like certain things in life to remain intact … as it is . , which is not possible…..which is not natural …. Rose is not a rose for ever. Nature now is never the same next moment, next day. Change is natural …. Change is another name of nature. The life next moment will be different from the life at this moment. We need to Accept change as naturally as we accept constancy………….
