LIBRARY AUTOMATION

Library Automation – Library Automation with the help of a function all library. Automation package in a computer, the house keeping tasks can be performed faster with extra benefits like better inventory mechanisms , facility for generation of a number of report which are unattainable so easily in the manual system with automation , service information resided in the registers and manuals exclusively kept at the custodians of service in the manual system were now available to other stake holder. It is now easy to monitor the status also able to know the status of a book of interest as issued/ reserved and to find out issued to whom .Both users and staff have become more sensible and careful in dealing with their usage and work after the advent of the automation systems due to the feeling that ‘someone’s watching . Many libraries follow a primitive automation culture where computer is kept on top of the desk and below that the still have the register and manual close to hand giving more emphasis to them than automation. Being largely deprived of chances to perform and shine unlike much other profession, some professional feel
Software problem in Library Automation in India- Many software available now in India do not conform to the national or international standard.
Standard Library Software- The basic operation of a library are Acquisition, Online public Access Catalogue, Circulation , Serial control, Information Services and Management Information Services, Reporting, etc. Some library software do not have the facilities for operation like circulation, etc.
