on obsessions and service mindedness ....!!

On Service and Obsessions / M.K.Gandhi and Purnima : February 18, 2011

1.      Service is rendered without joy helps neither the servant nor the served.  But all other pleasures and possessions pale into nothingness before service which is rendered in a spirit of joy. – M.K.Gandhi (Sacred Space, TOI, Feb 18, 2011)

2.      Our obsessions can be appeased when we see what life is at this moment ; it is not the next moment. A rose is not a rose if it stays for ever. _ Purnima (Speaking Tree, TOI, Feb 18, 2011)

Yes, service is to be rendered with joy …. Then only the server and serviced will have meaning and purpose and satisfaction in life. The life lived becomes worthy of note. Purnima brings out the striking truth about our obsessions … we are so much obsessed about certain things …. We would like certain things in life to remain intact … as it is . , which is not possible…..which is not natural …. Rose is not a rose for ever. Nature now is never the same next moment, next day. Change is natural …. Change is another name of nature. The life next moment will be different from the life at this moment. We need to Accept change as naturally as we accept constancy…………. BASE-The Search Engine

Librarians continue to be knowledge professionals. Would you like to communicate to the Principal Blogger of India Librarian directly? email to .- lotus5673@yahoo.co.in .- 1816gbgv

BASE is one of the world's most voluminous search engines especially for academic open access web resources. BASE is operated by Bielefeld University Library.

As the open access movement grows and prospers, more and more repository servers come into being which use the "Open Archives Initiative Protocol for Metadata Harvesting" (OAI-PMH) for providing their contents. BASE collects, normalises, and indexes these data. Our OAI-PHM-Blog communicates information related to harvesting and aggregating activities performed for BASE.

BASE is a registered OAI service provider and contributed to the European project "Digital Repository Infrastructure Vision for European Research" (DRIVER) which was successfully completed at the end of 2009.

In comparison to commercial search engines, BASE is charcterised by the following features:

Intellectually selected resources
Only document servers that comply with the specific requirements of academic quality and relevance are included
A data resources inventory provides transparency in the searches
Discloses web resources of the "Deep Web", which are ignored by commercial search engines or get lost in the vast quantity of hits.
The display of search results includes precise bibliographic data
Several options for sorting the result list
"Refine your search result" options (authors, subject headings, year, resources and language)

BASE-

Earlier OAIster was the only search engine which made for OAI repository search now acquired by OCLC and amalgamated with worldcat

Lisa, Ivy Baker Priest and Radner add fuel to my today’s mysteries……. February 17, 2

Lisa, Ivy Baker Priest and Radner add fuel to my today's mysteries……. February 17, 2011 :

I reshape my own meaning of what Priest, Radner and Lisa tell. The so called end could be a fantastic new beginning ….. … You could not realize …. Live up to your dream…. May be a new and gigantic ream may be in the making …. … if we are lost on the way to the dream …. We may come across a better one …. Go ahead, live this very moment.  Keep doing the best ….. not knowing what follows next. It is never too late for any thing …. This very moment is very ripe to start once again…….it is never never late for any thing. You have never wasted any time for any thing. All that was required for a out of the box beginning. Trust me.

  1. "The world is round, and the place which may seem like the end may also be the beginning." – Ivy Baker Priest
  2. "Some times on the way to your dream you get lost and find a better one.  It is ok to change our minds and it is never too late top start". – Lisa
  3. "……… Life is about knowing having to change, taking the moment and making the best of it without knowing what is going to happen next." – Gilda Radner
  4. "I encourage those of you who have not discovered your passion might be to keep seeking and dig deeper until you find it. For those who have found and changed your mind,  I say …. It is never too late to be what you might have been. Take a deep breath and take the leap. …. Dream Big" ….. Lisa

To fail is not a bad idea as such .... trust me

The freedom to fail is vital if you're going to succeed. Most successful people fail from time to time, and it is a measure of their strength that failure merely propels them into some new attempt at success.
Michael Korda

This is true enough, but success is the next best thing to happiness, and if you can't be happy as a success, it's very unlikely that you would find a deeper, truer happiness in failure.

# Each one of us need and feel the necessity of peace, but we search peace by finding faults with others ...

Thought that engaged me today

February 11, 2011

"If we need peace in life let us not find fault with others, we need to identify our own pitfalls first.  If we cut own on our heavy baggage of ego and self interest a bit, it would not be  difficult to realise the vastness within us and find joy in life." – Sharada Devi (The Speaking Tree, Times of India, February 11, 2011)

  1. Each one of us need and feel the necessity of peace, but we search peace by finding faults with others .... by keeping constantly to think that we are right always.... by ignoring our own mistakes.
  2. We need to realise the vastness within us. This is diffucult because we dont cut down on our heavy baggage of ego and self interest.
  3. If we have to find peace in life we need to stop finding mistakes in others and discover the vastness within us. We should know that the real self is vast and boundless and endless... and we are totally inter connected. We can see others in our own self and its nature.... we can find our own self in others ... this is possible broadening our horizon by becoming tolerant of the deficiencies of others as we pardon ourselves endlessly.  This is the secret of being happy and making others around us happy.

The thought that helps me to live in the this very present / February 10, 2011

The thought that helps me to live in the this very present / February 10, 2011

"The illusion that there will be some time in future when all things will come together for us interferes with our fully living today.  If we aren't living fully now, we never will.  The only time we ever have is the present". – John Gile

It is very clear from the quote of John Gile … tha present is very important and precious and is the only thing that is more visible and more apparent. We have more control over the present that the last moment and next moment. In an absolute sense Gile is right … but yesterday and tomorrow are also as real as ultimate truth itself. We build on what we did last moment and last day … and we plan or don't plan for the next moment, next day … accordingly. But no one can undermine the importance of this very moment … this very present… let us be in the present … and we can do it. It is possible.

Sadia Khan on Self-discovery

LbnRaj harps on  self discovery once again and tries to learn from Sadia Khan …. February 9, 2011

Journey Of Self – Discovery/Sadia Khan. Sadia Khan says :

  1. "Indeed, the most ordinary thing about each individual is the fact that he thinks himself a little out of the ordinary".
  2. "We have to pay a price to acquire anything at all in life.  Nothing comes for free.  Similarly, the unique individual can be brought out into the light only after paying the due price".
  3. "Life is an opportunity.  It gives us the freedom to act as we would want to.  If we fail to avail of this because of our own neglect, we shall have no justification for complaining later.
  4. "The Journey of Self-discovery can be rewarding and exciting if we only focus more on positive as well as extraordinary aspects".

Back to divine love … with hand holding by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar : February 08, 2011

Back to divine love … with hand holding by Sri Sri Ravi Shankar : February 08, 2011

Sri Sri Ravi Shankar says :

  1. The ability to receive genuine love comes with the ability to give love.
  2. Deep inside, you know that love is not an emotion ; it is your very existence.
  3. …. All the seeming disturbances in love, in your life, do not take away your nature, which is pure love, un conditional love.
  4. You are in love because you can't be but in love.
  5. This love (divine love) is so unconditional; it does not depend on the behaviour of the other person.
  6. Divine love is so refined and so subtle, it cannot be expressed; it can only be experienced.
  7. Divine love, however grows every moment……
  8. Divine love is like the sky which is limitless, infinite.
  9. If there is any thing in this universe that cannot be defined, it is love. If you can describe love, then it is far from the truth. You give flowers, you hug, you prostrate, you offer but still something remains unexpressed.

Fine God in every one and every thing around.!!!!!

That thought that teased me today - February 07, 2011

"Men and other creatures appear to me only as hollow forms, moving their heads and hands and feel, but within is the Lord Himself". – Sri Ramakrishna.

I am aware of this eternal truth, yet keep forgetting it in the hustle bustle of life …. in the so called business of life … business of being successful. Alas! I carry this truth along with me in the so called  everlasting present …. this very moment … this very precious moment. God let me give me patience and perseverance to realize God in every creature … individual who appear in front of me. Cheers!!!

The thought that moves me today, Librarians discover your work…!!!!!

The thought that moves me today, Librarians discover your work…!!!!!
February 4, 2011
"Your work is to discover your work and then with all your heart to give yourself to it." – Gautama Buddha.
Only the enlightened could think of giving such eternal statements. The first and fore most thing in life is to discover our work and then give ourselves to it. What a thought! We may get some times wondered at what really is the message in this. There is a whole lot of science and art for discovering … choosing …. selecting our work…. the process never ends if you really understand the deeper meanings of the message…. what  in your job is your job. The way you do, the way feel, the way you start, the method you choose the way you finish … all is  all about discovering our work. Then we should graduate to give ourselves to work with our heart. Then the work  becomes worship and job becomes profession and passion. Librarian friends, we are librarians, we do all things that librarians are supposed to do. Are all librarians doing the works in the same way., in the same tempo. Lib friends .. we have to find our work within our work …. That means we need to get to the core of our work … put our heart and soul in what we chose to do. This is the only we we can pave way for turning our vocation and occupation into a passion and profession.
Librarianship is a noble profession

Explore more….to do something extraordinary what you know is enough to start with … you can proceed further and further … and the whole world connives to assist you to go ahead….provided you humbly and honestly believe trust yourself. It is never too late, follow your dream….. cheers!!!!!

Thought that poked me, February 3, 2011

Lisa Hammonds (Dream Big) said, "Education and business experiences are not only the factors, in fact they are not even the most important factors in determining the success of any business"….. "You just never know which life experiences you will draw on as you follow your dream." … "If there is one thing I have discovered , it is that it is small things that can lead to the big shifts in thinking."

We many a time think that due to our not having a B.Tech., or M.Tech or or a business qualification like MBA or MA or for that matter Ph.D … that we are unable to do certain things …. Unable to start a business … unable to come up in life. This qualification business Lisa says does not fall in the most important things that matter either for initiating or nurturing a business or pursuing an intellectual pursuit or to do some thing extra ordinary in life. So Librarians , (including me) …. if at all we think we lack certain qualifications ….. if at all you have not undergone certain courses or if at all you could not read certain books that are sign qua non ….. it is never too late. There are ways and means of going ahead in fulfilling your dear big dream, come what may. If you are not an MLIS and unable to become a lecturer … you can become a publisher and get involved … you can initiate a journal that keeps you close to lecturers and teaching … you can start an e-business and get closer to libraries, librarians and knowledge manager. Explore yourself…. You don't know  what you know…. Explore more….to do something extraordinary what you know is enough to start with … you can proceed further and further … and the whole world connives to assist you to go ahead….provided you humbly and honestly believe trust yourself. It is never too late, follow your dream….. cheers!!!!!

Librarianship is a noble profession
