Give me a thought that keeps me healthy positive for the day ..... can any librarian help me?

January 10,2011 , Monday

What is the thought for the day for me today?

As usual I was looking for the thought that can  place me busy and healthy for the day…….. but TOI centre could not offer me any thing … that corresponds to what I want … what I wish! I suddenly remember my scribbling in my diary  from the Lisa Hammonds book " Dream Big". Here are the lines, " At the beginning of something there has to be nothing.  We have to give ourselves a clean slate and permission to dream". It happens to me quite often that my big dream gets clouded by small inconveniences….and failures. I get upset and get over powered by the obstacles … and the dream remains un attended … leading to a gap in my bigger convictions. Am I right.? Yes today I have some greater task to do. Yes I am not ready fully to face and accomplish it….. but then my intentions are right….I never wanted failures…..I never wanted to be unprepared….yes may be the things dearer to heart overpowered by day today engagements. But I am committed … and continue to be committed. Yes for today's task I am not prepared….. and Lisa says .. for every beginning nothingness is required. Thank God you make way for new beginnings….by making me be in nothingness several times…..on several occasions. Yes this day is one those moments … when things are not right……when every thing required for completing that task has gone wrong. And here The Mother's words give me courage to trust my self trust God …. Who will put every thing in place……. Yes this is what The Mother always inspires me … reassures when ever I think things have gone wrong…. : "When every thing goes wrong, it is then that we must make a supreme act of faith and know that the grace never fails". Yes my faith in myself….my faith and trust in God reassures me of my thinking that I am what I am …. No less No more…..just as I am. Whatever I am is no less no more!

Librarian friends, What is this Being and Having?

January 8, 2011

Librarian friends, What is this Being and Having?

"If being is pure consciousness without ego, having is pure ego without consciousness."(Source : The Speaking Tree, Times of India, January 8, 2011 Saturday).

Being Librarians, we too are human, we too are perfect and imperfect at the same time, we too have feelings, we too may fall far behind in terms of professional ethics at times. Being Librarians does not bar us from knowing some of the eternal truths that make us come out of shallow and limited understandings. If we learn to be in the state of being instead of having … our life will be more enjoyable … more fruitful. Let us provide our services being in the state of Being …. Let us not graduate to the stage of Having which is a host of possessions and attachments. We are in a noble profession… let us be selfless… let us not always be in search of rewards and accomplishments. In our pursuit of excellence …. In our pursuit of being the best in the state of Being …. If rewards and prizes follow … let us acknowledge the patrons…. Society at large who made us think that way … who made us graduate towards excellence. Cheers! We are in the this lively and scholarly profession. Thank God.

New endings and New beginnings .... what we as librarians learn on this?

Endings and beginnings  - What it means to the Librarians?

January 7, 2011

"Every ending is a new beginning.  Through the grace of God, we can always start again." – Seneca (Sacred Space, Times of India, January 7, 2011).

"I have special inclination for Library Services … like indexing, abstracting etc … but you know … I have wasted years at Circulation Counter of the library … I don't know when I will get into in what I am passionately interested." "I am so passionate about socializing … Public Relations but for the last 5 years I am working as a cataloguer …. What a waste of time …. How do I get back those 5 year… time doesnot come back." We hear such laments of Librarians either young or middle aged or the seniors as such. If we look at the lives of performers …. Innovators …. Inventors … successful leaders … we can very well understand …. The path of success is not as smooth as we think of. Desperation for something… craving for something gets birth out of a situation where in we are doing something not so dearer to our hearts. And this desperation will make you head towards getting into what you always wanted to get involved in. If we are deprived of something … for quite long ….dont feel bad….dont get disheartened….that builds up the required energy and passion for the thing….you have always wanted to do. If you are bent upon doing something …. You will find time … you will find resources…you will find opportunity. Don't succumb to circumstances  and situations … endure your efforts….sustain your passion… be what you are … stand for what you are. There are examples of many Social Scientists, literary figures, scientists … who enjoy doing most of what we librarians call as work. There are many librarians who double up either as a writer, poet, or an artist. And it is not necessary that we should earn laurels only from the vocation that pays us and continues to pay us. There is no end as such for any thing…. The years that have gone behind cannot be recalled … but that was not a waste …. We are the result of all of our involvements, moments, experiences of the years that have become history now… and they have made us what we are today.  And whatever we are today is nothing less nothing more…. And we have no right to ridicule on what we are …. We are what we are … we should continue to be proud of what we are and what we stand for. Every ending has a beginning…..we can always start over right now again and again. It is not late for any thing…. The left with you for this life … may be 10 years, 20 years ….40 years…80 years are neither less nor more. The time is just enough for doing and accomplishing what ever you always dreamt. Cheers! It is not late for any thing even if you are at 50 or 60 or 70 or 80. Start now … this could be a right moment for one more new beginning…..Cheers!!!!!!

Unreasonable questions to a Librarian .....

Unreasonable questions to a Librarian....
  • Can you hope to always to be surrounded by good people? ... or to be good environment?
  • What nurtures goodess, virtue joy and love
  • Will you agree to the theory that indicates how we make our destiny .... our thoughts ... leading to emotions..Moods...Temperaments......Actions.......Destiny

  • I quote Purnima (The Speaking Tree, Times of India, 06-01-2011), "A mind that is awake and watch nurtures goodness, virtue, joy and love within a human being in all aspects of life.......Awareness is what can give you an extraordinary quality of life.....so come alive, live consciously, be aware of every movement, and be awake to every rythm of life.  In living live every moment that you see is each a time a     NEW BEGINNING".

Library ethics and ethical librarianship ...... how ethical r v as librarians? .......... January 05, 2011

Library ethics and ethical librarianship

January 05, 2011

Ethics forms the base of human society inclusive of all fabrics of human life. Organizations and Institutions adhere to ethical practice all over. Libraries and librarians are not an exception to this and they are associated with the world of knowledge. I am focused here more on ethical librarianship rather than library ethics which includes the dos and donts of other stake holders. How ethical is the profession of librarianship? How ethical are the librarians? What forms the base of librarianship with regard to its ethics? It is time to go back to professional code of conduct enshrined in our institutions and professional associations, which all of us agree to abide by. Cheers! It is an honour and joy to be good, to be ethical …………and above all this paves way for our position as a full fledged profession …. this  paves way for our rightful position and status in society. Cheers!!!!!!! Let us be ethical.

Mind your actions .... mind your behaviour .... Librarians your behaviour can elevate you to be a full fledged professional

Behaviour

January 4, 2011, Tuesday

"Behave so the aroma of your actions may enhance the general sweetness of the atmosphere." – Henry D Thoreau.

Behaviour is every thing,  it turns a dull atmosphere into a lively meeting. It lightens the hearts of the ones who have suffered or who are suffering. Right and compassionate behaviour kindles rays of hope and inspiration in the people around us … people who matter us very much. Our every word and action are capable of spreading aroma of sweetness or or spreading waves of hatred and filth. Let the aroma of sweetness take over all hatred and filth in our behaviour. Let the smiles rule the basics of our actions / behaviour.

Every moment of our life is precious ... every moment has a potential to teach us some thing eternal .... some thing extra ordinary!!!!!

Gift of God

January 3, 2010

"Every day we live is a price less gift of God, loaded with possibilities to learn something new, to gain fresh insights into His great truths." – Dale Evans Rogers (Sacred Space, Times of India, January 3, 2011)

Well said Rogers, every moment, day, month and year is a priceless gift of God. Every moment has potential  and opportunity for us to learn learn new and different things. And all of this leads us towards getting fresh and new understandings of the ultimate truth.. Every child loves its parents … as much as parents love it … I do love my parents … no less no more …. Just being as close to truth as any other universal truth. At times we get so busy …. Or tend to think that we are busy ….or we are busy actually for different reasons …..as we keep prioritizing our goals in life. My mother who is in hospital for her heart surgery …. At Bangalore ….. tells me some times if it is possible for me to meet her. She does not want me to meet her if that was inconvenient … if that puts me to difficulties of any soft. What a mystery of the ultimate truth. My priorities …… are stuffed  so much and so much realistically …. and it rarely has priorities of my parents …… the things of my kids are in my priority list … and not of my parents. But my parents priority list is all about me my brothers and sisters…… My be I learnt this from them only. But still …. I strongly think that the way the priorities are worked out needs to be toppled down …. needs to be  re worked ……. I wish and strongly believe that hence forth my parents and their requirements …. atleast in terms of emotional bond should figure in list of things to do. Every body loves their parents …. I do love my parents … may be little more than what we do in this regard is desired …. Thank you God for atleast giving me this opportunity to realize this.

Again on Ends and Beginnings …… while dwelling seriously and sincerely on Ends and Beginnings I honestly wish all of you a meaningful, happy, and cheerful 2011. Happy New year 2011

Again on Ends and Beginnings …… while dwelling seriously and sincerely on Ends and Beginnings I honestly wish all of you a meaningful, happy, and cheerful 2011. Happy New year 2011

January 1, 2011

New year works as a mark or milestone on our enduring passage/road of our achievements, shortcomings, feelings and sentiments. May be it is a learnt phenomena to count 365 days as one year……..  60 seconds as one minute and 60 minutes as one hour and 24 hours as one day …and 30 days as one month and 12 months as one year. Whatever …… these counts help us to measure …… assess our contributions on whatever we engaged in the last year.  The day of new year is not  a day for mourning ………..not a day for repenting…….it is a day for reassuring…….it is a day for cheering…….it is a day for smiling on what that last moment….day…..and month and year it was………..and then to look forward for altogether new next moment, day, month and year ahead. Every moment that has started in the year 2011 is different from the last year. The year 2011 can be replicated once again……and there is no need either. There is a need to underestimate our sufferings and worries … there is a need to over estimate our joys and our achievements and accomplishments. There is nothing wrong……….good or bad we need to and tend to look forward for more happiness………more cheer……..more comforts. We look forward to have more and more delicious……..tastier food………we look forward for seeing beautiful things………..travel around, dance around….and what not……….      NOTHING WRONG!...........WHAT IF WE CANT RELISH SWEETS CONTINOUSLY…….DAY IN AND OUT ……… AT EVERY GAP WE WISH TO HAVE SWEETS AND TASTIER FOOD …. THAT IS WHAT  WE ARE …. THAT IS WHAT WE ARE BY NATURE…….NOTHING WRONG. You will at times find few individuals………who are so idealistic………..who are so perfect…………who are so joyful…….who are so fantastic……….who are so much interesting……………so much beautiful………..who are so sick of being good…….!!!!!!! It is ok………this does not and should make one think of not being good……….not being happy………not being important…… Yes this is life …. We are destined to think of the better………we are destined to think and desire for good things…….better things ……better opportunities in life……….nothing wrong.

THE WORST OF THE WORST INDIVIDUALS AND THE BEST OF THE BEST INDIVIDUALS HAVE THEIR OWN JUSTIFICATION FOR GOOD AND FOR BEING PERFECT. THERE HAS NEVER BEEN ANY ONE BORN JUST TO THINK…JUST TO BE BAD. BEING GOOD IS IN OUR BLOOD……..BEING ACCOUNTABLE….BEING HAPPY IS OUR FUNDAMENTAL NATURE AS HUMAN BEING. BEING BAD IS A LEARNT BEHAVIOUS …. IF AT ALL IT EXISTS. ONLY THING THAT MATTERS IS THE GOOD AND THE FAIR THAT WE DEFINE FOR OURSELVES……HOW FAIR AND GOOD IT IS TO OTHERS.

CHEERS……….HAPPY NEW YEAR………WE ARE SOCIAL BEINGS……..WE ARE THINKING ANIMALS……..LET US CONTINUE THIKING………… THE YEARS PASS BY … LIFE GOES ON …. AND LET US BE TRUTH FUL TO EVERY SECOND OF THIS WONDERFUL TIME THAT STARTED AT 01.00AM TODAY …. THAT IS IT …. THIS VERY MOMENT IS NO LESS IMPORTANT…………… TIME HEALS OUR BAD MOMENTS……..TIME HEALS OUR PAINS … LET US MOVE FORWARD…….. LET US BE IN TUNE AND STAY IN TUNE WITH THE COSMIC TRUTHS . WE ARE PART AND PARCEL OF A BIGGER GAME………. LET US PAY AS LONG AS  WE ARE IN THE PLAY GROUND… CHEERS!!!!! HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL OF YOU!!!!

One more opportunity for a New Beginning .... Wish all of you a Happy and Prosperous new year 2010

New beginnings                                                             December 31, 2010

"A new beginning brings with it a freshness that is hard to ignore as it brings with it fresh hope and the promise of bright days ahead." – Janina Gomes (The Speaking Tree, Times of India, December 29, 2010).

When things go wrong …when hopes and dreams seem to be shattering……when the last second, hour, day and year haunts…..what should one do?  Repent on the past that went wrong? Worry on the next moment, next hour, next day or the next month and year?  You are right Gomes, a new beginning, a new fresh beginning is a wonderful option!  And when should this new beginning take off? Is it the next fresh second, it it the next fresh hour day, month or the year?  A fresh beginning could be conceived at the earliest …….could be the next second or the next minutes.  Yes explore freshness all over again in the fresh new beginning……there are n number of opportunities for new beginnings.  Explore as you move from second to second, life is full of abundance, if we act unconditionally and abundantly. Next beautiful moment is waiting for our new beginning! Cheers !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Ensure your tomorrow's tomorrow and tomorrow's yesterday ..... do this by being in the this very moment ... this very day .... cheers ...... be smiling now .... LbnRaj

"Nobody can go back and start a new beginning, but any one can start today and make a new ending" - Maria Robinson (Sacred Space, Times of India, December 30, 2010).  Yes Maria, no one can go back for initiating a new beginning..... but human mind is such that we always tend to think of how bad or how good was our beginning yesterday ..... last month .... and we keep building up castles in the air. Whatever was the beginning .... or the start ... it was ... it is past now....... that beginning is beyond correction. The beginning that is history now ... should be built upon ..... refreshed with new beginnings .... am I right? We can always make new beginnings .... for achieving desired endings... desired goals. It is indeed beautiful to be in the present ..... because it takes care of your history of today as you can see it from tommorrow. By being in present .... you can shape a better and desired tommorrow ..... am i right?   Be in the present and define your future history and future tommorrows. Cheers .... be smiling now.......... lbnRaj

Why holidays when every day is a holiday?

 Why holidays?

"When you like your work, every day is a holiday". Frank Tyger. (Times of India, Sacred Space, 29, December 2010).  It raises questions like ….. What do we mean by a holiday? Can we have or should we have holidays continuously. Is it not logical to have a distinction between a holiday and a working day. Let us assume that we enjoy our work on a working day a lot ……………….and it is really a celebration every whey while we are on work. Can we celebrate every day every moment……………..then the celebration loses its importance. We like sweets ……………………can we have sweets every day ………..every moment. We need to be cheerful every second…………….everyday … then no one likes to be cheerful………..it becomes so boring you know……………………….. Now should we have holiday every day………………………… Then is it wise to like our work so much that …………….every day looks like a holiday? ……………………………….. I don't know……………… it is quite natural not to like the work so much ……………… so that we may have those rare moments when we liked the work so much ……….and so much passionately? I think Librarians will agree on this ? Am I right?
