Life is a reward .....

Say Goodbye With Grace

"Don't make things small and big, trivial and important.  Every thing is important. …. That there is nothing which is great or small ; it all depends on you,  what you make of it.  Start with meditation, and things will grow in you – silence, serenity, blissfulness, sensitivity.  And whatever comes out of meditation, try to bring it out in life.  Share it, because everything shared grows fast. ….

Life is a reward

and it is given only to those who have earned it, who deserve it.  It will be against existence if you don't beautify it,  if you leave it just as you have found it.  So leave it a little happier, a little more beautiful, a little more fragrant." Work , play and meditation

Work and Play : "The person who is a master in the art of living makes little distinction between their work and their play, their labour and their leisure,  their mind and their body,  their education and their recreation, their love and their religion.  They hardly know which is which.  They simply pursue their vision of excellence and grace in whatever they do, leaving others to decide whether they are working or playing.  To them, they are always doing both." – Zen Buddhism. (Source : Sacred Space ; Times of India, November 30, 2010).

Meditation : "Many a time seekers try to meditate on their won or take guidance3 from holy books or refer to the meditation techniques taught by great masters in their times., but are absolutely oblivious of the intricacies involved.  But because of lack of guidance when a leap beyond mind seems light years away,  they just despair.  In reality there is no need to despair but to learn meditation from a living enlightened master. …. Luminous presence of an enlightened master creates a highly charged field of consciousness paving the way for seekers to travel far more easily and faster.  Retreat with the master revitalizes and nourishes the soul, heals the wounds of mind,  afflicted for ages … dissolving into the ocean of pure bliss!" – Anandmurti Gurumaa (The speaking tree ; Times of India; Nov 30, 2010).

Real detachment ...

Real detachment : "The man who is pure of heart is bound to fulfil himself in whatever way he is taught.  A worldly man seeks all his life., but is still bewildered.  Detached from the senses, you are free.  Attached you are bound.  When this is understood, you may live as you please"- Astavakra Gita 15:1-2

Enlightened Thought : “All that we are is the result of what we have thought. If a man speaks or acts with an evil thought, pain follows him. If a man speaks or acts with a pure thought, happiness follows him, like a shadow that never leaves him.” – Gautama Buddha (Sacred Space, Times of India, November 18, 2010).

Complete Surrender :

Ego and patience

"Ego and patience : Drop the 'I' and 'mine' and live in the 'we'.  The universe is one.  Without the ego we wxperience a beautiful connectedness with every thing else in the great chain of being : with the birds, stars, sky and trees. … It is connectedness that is known known as nirvana. …. We have to trust the universe with its own ways of opening and closing windows of opportunity and doors to happiness and prosperity. We have to learn to be patient.  Patience is the predicated on the faith that God knows better than we ever can hope to know what is good for us." – Swami SukhabodhanandaSource : Roar your way to Excellence. – Speaking Tree, Times of India.-November 12, 2010.

The luminous life of Chanakya.2006/Shyam Dua (ed).-Delhi: Tiny Tot publications.-2004.-96p. A Book Review by Rajashekhar Devarai.

This book on Chanakya, also known as Kautilya a king maker par excellence published under the series, "The Luminous Life Of", by Tiny Tot Publications offers an intellectual read through.  The book is a pictorial run through of the outstanding contributions of this great scholar, author and political scientist.  By nature this timeless thinker was aloof, strict, disciplinarian and shrewd person.  As every one  knows he authored the famous works titled, "Arthashastra and Nitishastra.  The editor is successful in bringing out the essence of his teachings , philosophy and ideologies.  But unfortunately does not address the tiny tots, keeping their level and capacity to comprehend.  A more simpler exposition would have suited the younger readers.  May be a second or third reading under guidance may make tiny tots to understand what is deliberated in the book.  May be it is an useful read for those who are passing out from their high schools.  It is equally suited for general adult readers for general knowledge and understanding of Indian history and Magadh empire.

All said and done this kind of pictorial biographies raises the curiosities of readers in general to get to main texts / original texts.  This pocket book running into 96 pages is quite handy for a quick read and its cost i.3., Rs.25.00 is quite affordable to one and all.

Log on to spirituality

"Log on to spirituality : As one grows spiritually one gains the sensitivity to see Divinity even in ordinary manifestations, like a flower or leaf.  At the highest level one is rroted in Brahmn, immersed in the contemplation of Brahmn, and does not need any manifestation to remind oneself of the Divine"-Jaya Row(Speaking Tree, Times of India, Nov 11, 2010).

"Full of Joy : He it is , the innermost one, who awakens my being with his deep hidden touches.  He it is who puts his enchantment upon these eyes and joyfully plays on the chords of my heart in varied cadence of pleasure and pain"-Rabindranath Tagore" (Sacred Space, Times of India, Nov 11, 2010).

present , past and future

Whenever I happen to read great thoughts of great thinkers/leaders … I quite often chance upon these golden words : "be in present…present is the most obvious form of time…take care of the present and you can take care of the past and the future both ……" I hope and wish I trust these words … but again and again questions arise…… and often I keep saying to myself….some times who so ever is infront of me …"past and future are as obvious and clear as that of present …. And they are facts and not fiction… after all the present and future depart and separate by less than 1 billionth of a second…. Am I right. Can we really separate the past, present and the future is my big question". LbnRaj ; lotus5673@yahoo.co.in

Pure consciousness

Pure consciousness

"Self is sakshi, pure witness.  However, if I am not aware of it, I cannot be rich and blissful.  To be truly happy the awakening of the self is required.  This knowledge of the self gives you the understanding that you are pure consciousness - the witness.  It is only through Brahm gyan, pure knowledge, that you come to know about your own true self."  -- Anandmurti Gurumaa

How to be a good librarian?

How to be a good Librarian

Librarians are on the cutting edge of information technology and are always involved in something new and exciting.

Graduate from high school.

Learn about librarianship from the American Library Association website. Also check out the federal government's Bureau of Labor Statistics Occupational Handbook Online. Investigate what library type you would like to specialize in. Choose your college major accordingly.

Graduate from college with a bachelor's degree in just about anything. Everything you learn is useful.

Choose a graduate school with a school of library and information science. The American Library Association website keeps a list. There are about fifty schools in the country. Some schools offer online courses. Graduate with an "MLS", Master of Library Science or similar degree title.

Do an internship or work part-time in a library while you're in library school so you can build up your resumé and learn more about different types of libraries.

Apply for a job and be glad you choose a fascinating, never a dull moment career with a high job satisfaction rate.

  • Learn management skills. A librarian is a manager first and foremost. You will have to manage people, budgets, leaking roofs, power hungry administrators and problem patrons. There is no "man behind the curtain" to run things, you're it.
  • Be prepared for people who want to stamp you with the "Marion the Librarian", dull and boring stereotype. These are usually people who aren't nice people to begin with and worse yet, don't read very often. Continue to be polite and professional, but open and friendly. This will help them get beyond the stereotype. Try to prove them wrong as much as possible. Show that as a librarian you can be fun and outgoing.
