 ILA Election Manifesto
PROF. B. D. KUMBAR,
Professor, Department of Library and Information Science, Karnatak University, Dharwad, KARNATAKA.
For the Post of President, ILA, India
ILA ELECTION, 2019-2022
“Beautiful Minds Inspire others”
Our Agenda: A Think Tank for Future Development of Library Profession in India
o Initiation of NextGen Library Movement in the digital age;
o Promotion of the training of LIS professionals through short-term workshops
o Convince the State Governments to enact Public Library Acts in the states that have not enacted yet
o Improvement of the status of LIS professionals in the light of guidelines issued by UGC, State Governments and other apex bodies.
o Promotion of research in library and information science
The Indian Library Association was established nine decades back with a vision of furtherance of library movement in India, promotion of training of librarians and improvement of status of librarians. Over the years nine more objectives were added to the vision and mission statement of the ILA. Since inception the Association provided a wide variety of services and programs to its members and also others, who seek technical support or advice. Due to the selfless service rendered by 28 Presidents and their teams, the Association has achieved many milestones.
o Establishing linkages with LIS schools and libraries & industries
o Encouraging publication of books
from LIS professionals
o Organizing Indian Library
Association conferences /seminars according to internationally accepted standards
o Assisting the organizations to develop their library and information centers
o Helping Accreditation bodies to draw effective parameters to accredit LIS schools
o Formulation of standards for Library and Information centers
As a philosopher puts it, it is not required to put blame on others for not doing everything perfect. The teams have achieved what best could be possible during their tenure within the limitations. To continue the ideologies and works left behind by the past teams, we have formed a team comprising of Librarians, LIS teachers with a mix of young and old blood.
o We will fight for the implementation of proper Scales and staffing pattern in private institution’s Libraries.
o Our team will work for filling the vacant posts in Libraries and Library Schools at various levels in the country as well make the pressure on the authorities, Government in Centre and States for the same.
o Propagating the concept of Green Libraries and Green Information Literacy.

Are ILA peoples are sleeping??????????

Whether Indian Library Association members and Administrators are sleeping?? This question will came into your mind if you tried & tired when you click http://www.ila-india.org/. I asked this question in LIS forum. i think the ILA not working properly as the name was. If Indian Library Association doesn't maintain a website in the electronic era, what should it seeks, i think ILA used only for political purpose. According to some south India based Librarians, ILA is Delhi politics based librarians group, we never found any representation on that. So we don't believe ILA will be front runner in Library movement in India.
Now, I can say ILA should be reinstalled. We must delete some corrupted file and update new. Windows 98 or Dos version is suitable for ILA, XP/VISTA/LINUX we must think of it. Older people on the organization, if they are not ready to accept the change just backspaced from the authority and they should be insert key for young librarians.
Not only ILA it belongs to MLAI because they also don't have any websites. Let us bring "Dhoni Mania" in Library Associations, Library movements in India. : CONTRIBUTED BY ONE OF THE AUTHORS OF THIS BLOG viz thimms
